Chris Luu is known around town for getting super high on his board and blasting over the biggest cones the city has to offer. So we caught up with him for a minute to ask whats up and how to get so high.

Not even over sized cones like this one are safe from getting burned with an ollie.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

C-dolla from the block holla atcha boy

WHY DO YOU GET HIGH ALL THE TIME?

Flip tricks are for losers (and people who can actually skate)

DOES YOUR MUM KNOW YOU GET HIGH?

She can probably smell the Ollie in my room

WHAT DOES SHE THINK ABOUT IT?

My mum has never seen me high let alone skate. Probably give her a heart attack if she saw either.

Quality over quantity on this boardslide.

HOW DO YOU GET SO HIGH?

It’s in the squat, I get lashed for crouching so low but it’s the only way I find to spring myself up, also I watch ‘crouching tiger hidden dragon’ and listen to ‘shawty get low’ on repeat for motivation.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO GET SO HIGH OR DID YOU HAVE TO WORK AT IT?

I vividly remember the feeling of stoke on my first curb I ever ollie’d up, I remember thinking ‘this is so cool I can just skate wherever I want and nothing can get in my way’, Then I slowly just moved up, to milk crates then stacking more height on and so forth, nowadays its much the same feeling of excitement only I’m going over slightly bigger things. Ollies aren’t that hard anyway, it’s like a science test, either you’re going to make it or you’re not.

Smith grind so dank we had to air the spot out after this.

DO YOU THINK ANYONE CAN GET HIGHER THEN WHAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY GETTING?

Some people are so confident on skateboards, I recently saw Alex (Campbell) back 180 over this bench on flat and his back foot was so tweaked in mid air he pretty much rolled it from my angle, that dude has horse kicks when he pops, its unfathomable.

EVER GOTTEN YOURSELF INTO BAD SITUATIONS TRYING TO GET HIGH?

Yeah for sure, Once I was skating this filthy construction site and was trying to kickflip over this little block, The roof of the place was so low and had all these pipes and scaffolding piercing out, just a bunch of things that could kill you if you were to run into them. I went to kickflip the block and next thing I know the top of my head scraped an iron pipe and almost knocked myself out trying to skate over it, basically shaved the top of my scalp on some concreted rusty pipe. That spot sucked anyway.

DO YOU THINK GETTING HIGH IS FOR EVERYONE?

Yeah get lit.

Grade A, getting low to get high technique here.

ANY POINTERS FOR SOMEONE THAT WANTS TO GET HIGHER?

Watch Reese Forbes and HUF in ‘Closure’, height done with finesse. Listen to Gucci mane/ignorant rap to fire yourself up as well, If they aren’t talking about how much rubber band stacks they clear, it isn’t worth listening to. But mainly be confident in your own ability, excel and prevail.

WHERE CAN WE SEE YOU GETTING HIGH?

I’m currently filming with Quen (Guthrie) for his newest instalment which should be out sometime in June or so. Good line up of skaters as well as it being a tight independent film shaped from his aesthetic of raw street and fluid skating, Some of the tricks I’ve seen him film are absolutely ludicrous as well. I’ve also got a less then a few things with Josh (Roberts) for his production in Domingo 2, be on the lookout some heavy hitters and immaculate filming in that. Thanks for the lense attention boys.

420 BLAZE IT?
